Who Should Pick the Winners of Climate Change?
The authors of this paper (from WCS, Smithsonian Institution, and others) offer a counter-approach to “predict and prescribe” strategies that tend to prioritize protection of more pristine reefs over impacted reefs. Disturbed reefs may actually enable more rapid adaptation to the impacts of climate change. The paper champions adaptation networks that provide a more diverse portfolio of genotypes, species, and communities to spread the risk.
