Equality for Women and Girls

Produced in partnership with Summit collaborator the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), this 2014 film explores the prevalence of child marriage in Guatemala with the direction and images of photo journalist Stephanie Sinclair.

Guatemala was the tenth country where Sinclair documented the issue of child marriage, beginning with a 2011 film focused on child marriage within India, Yemen, Afghanistan, Nepal and Ethiopia. In 2012, the stories featured in this film, and the phenomenon of child marriage globally led to the creation of the non-profit Too Young to Wed. Too Young to Wed uses powerful visual storytelling to provide evidence of child marriage and its effects in communities all over the world, while also providing local support to the girls living within these communities.
