Equality for Women and Girls

Winner of both the Audience Award at the San Francisco International Festival of Short Films and the Best Film Award at The Population Institute’s Global Media Awards for Excellence in Population Reporting, this 25-minute highlights the efforts of indigenous women Ester Pop and Evelyn Roquel of Women’s International Network for Guatemalan Solutions (WINGS). Undeterred by Guatemala’s powerful religious organizations, conservative politicans, and a male-dominated culture that leaves women without a voice, Evelyn and Ester courageously travel the countryside to provide women with family planning education and access to contraceptive methods.
The film depicts their continuing fight for reproductive rights in Guatemala.
