FUNDAECO: Impact Evaluation 2014-2019

Established in 1990, FUNDAECO is a Guatemalan organization dedicated to the conservation of the nature and the promotion of sustainable community development. FUNDAECO promotes the establishment and management of protected areas, promotes the conservation of biodiversity through biological research and monitoring, environmental education and political advocacy. In 2009, in response to the socioeconomic situation and poor sexual and reproductive health outcomes in communities in the department of Izabal, FUNDAECO created their “Healthy and Empowered Women and Girls” Program. The program aims to improve the basic conditions of access to health, education and infrastructure for environmental sanitation in the communities within and around the protected areas. This evaluation looks at the impact and lessons learned from the Healthy and Empowered Women and Girls Program from 2014-2019.
