PROGRAM AREAS - Global Population & Youth Leadership

Overview | Advocacy | Young Leaders

Overview

For over 15 years, the Summit Foundation has been committed to a world where people can thrive and nature can flourish. We believe that this vision can only be achieved by improving the quality of life of the world’s inhabitants and by ensuring the sustainability of the resource base upon which we all depend.

At this unprecedented time in history, half of the world’s population is under 25 years of age. This means that the largest generation of young people ever - over three billion strong - is entering or will soon enter their reproductive years. Young people, particularly those who live in the developing world, suffer disproportionately from early and unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortion, and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS. We know that these outcomes come with high emotional, social and economic costs that can significantly impact their lives and ultimately influence global development.

We believe that the health, opportunities and decisions of young people today, as well as the information and services available to them, will define the future of their societies and the world as never before. Given appropriate support and opportunities, young people can become a powerful force for their own achievements and for sustained progress in their communities and the world.

We feel that young people are not only the determinants of the future, but also the leaders of the future. Accordingly, our programs are designed with their future, growth and development at the core.

We do not currently accept unsolicited proposals. However, organizations working toward our programmatic goals are invited to share informational materials with The Summit Foundation. Letters of inquiry should be addressed to Marilyn Wu at: mwu@summitfdn.org.
