Funding Priorities
One of the most highly leveraged ways we can achieve a sustainable
global population and empower young people is through advocating for
youth to have access to sexual and reproductive health information
and services. We also believe that by training the leaders of tomorrow,
we can make a significant, visible and lasting difference in the quality
of life in selected countries in Mesoamerica. Our funding is therefore
focused in the following two areas:
- ADVOCACY FOR UNIVERSAL ACCESS FOR YOUTH
We seek to achieve universal access for young people to comprehensive
sexual and reproductive health information and services. To achieve
this goal, we provide support for:
- Organizations that most effectively advocate for comprehensive
sexual and reproductive health funding, policies and programs
for youth around the world, and
- Targeted efforts to train and support young leaders who
can advocate effectively for comprehensive sexual and reproductive
health programs and policies for young people around the world.
All those seeking support from The Summit Foundation for advocacy
work must be able to articulate clearly and specifically how their
work will move the world closer toward the goal of universal access.
- YOUNG LEADERS IN ADOLESCENT SEXUAL & REPRODUCTIVE
HEALTH IN THE MESOAMERICAN REEF COUNTRIES
We seek to create a cadre of outstanding young professionals committed
to improving adolescent sexual and reproductive health in Honduras,
Guatemala, Belize and Quintana Roo, Mexico. In collaboration with
International Health Programs (www.ihp.org)
of the Public Health Institute, we are working to:
- Identify outstanding young professionals who are experienced
in reproductive health and committed to the field;
- Foster the commitment of these young leaders, expand their
vision, extend their technical knowledge and strengthen their
leadership skills;
- Create an effective regional network of young leaders dedicated
to creating innovative solutions to adolescent reproductive
health challenges;
- Foster an environment that supports youth leadership in
the organizations where these young leaders work; and
- Expand public support for adolescent sexual and reproductive
health in these countries.
More information about this program, which is now entering its
third year, can be found at www.gojoven.org.
Our youth leadership program aims both to support these individuals
and improve the availability and quality of adolescent sexual
and reproductive health services in the region.
